Vitamin C is a multitasking antioxidant that helps repair UV damage and alleviate areas of hyperpigmentation, according to cosmetic chemist Ginger King. "Vitamin C is known to even out tone and boost the production of collagen in your skin," she says. "As a result, skin looks plumper and more radiant."

"When you use the two ingredients together, there is a synergistic effect, and vitamin E helps preserve the efficacy of vitamin C," says King. "Vitamin E helps prevent vitamin C from being oxidized quickly—similar to how apples will turn yellow when you've had them for a while."
